The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted Black families and exposed broken economic, social, educational, and health systems that fail to serve Black communities. While the nation is still in the throes of the pandemic, the roll out of vaccines brings some hope for a safe re-opening of our society. Join Black policy leaders, researchers and parents for a discussion of the trauma experienced by Black families during the pandemic, the policies needed for healing and bringing about equitable systems, and personal approaches to finding joy.

This historic march commemorated the towns of Brentwood and North Brentwood uniting in the name of social justice and communal solidarity. On February 25, 2021, North Brentwood Mayor Petrella Robinson and Chanel Compton, board chair and former executive director of the Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center and executive director of the Banneker–Douglas Museum, Maryland’s official state museum of African American History and Culture, discussed the history of North Brentwood, the first Black township incorporated in Prince George's County. The event was the inaugural session in theRoute 1 Corridor Conversations series organized by Hyattsville Aging in Place, Helping Hands University Park, Neighbors Helping Neighbors College Park, and Explorations on Aging College Park.
